OpenDNS is a company and service that extends the Domain Name System (DNS) by adding features such as phishing protection and optional content filtering in addition to DNS lookup in its DNS servers.. The company hosts a cloud computing security product suite, Umbrella, designed to protect enterprise customers from malware, botnets, phishing, and targeted online attacks.

OpenDNS will NOT speed up your Internet like Google. The reason is Google maintains a view of current Internet routes. This is NOT about DNS queries. It is about the IP that is returned from Google is a better IP because IP has far better data to give you a better connected IP. If you want to use Google's DNS servers, you can add the following two items to the list: 8.8.8.8; 8.8.4.4; If you'd rather use OpenDNS instead, which has lots of extra features, you can use the following two entries: 208.67.222.222; 208.67.220.220; That's pretty much all there is to it! Click OK and your Mac will be using the new DNS The software couldn't be easier: just install it and log in, and your IP address will be updated for OpenDNS.
